The Norwalk Fire Department responded to a basement fire at 18 Reservoir Avenue this morning, at 12:47am. The 2 story, 2 family home had heavy smoke showing from the rear of the home as Firefighters arrived. Firefighters quickly advanced hose lines to the basement and first floor to extinguish the fire, as crews search the home.
The owner who lived on the first floor was woken up by the 2nd floor tenants that smelled the smoke prior to the house becoming charged with smoke. The house had to be posted unfit for occupancy, due to the fire and heat damage to the water pipes, and electrical wiring. The owner sought shelter with a neighbor and the 2 occupants of the 2nd floor were staying with relatives.
24 Firefighters responded to the fire with 3 Engines, 2 Trucks a Rescue and Command Car. Fire Inspector Luca Feola is investigating the cause of the blaze.
