Today at 1028 hours Norwalk Fire Dept. was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on I-95 South Bound between exits 14 and 13. Additional calls indicated that a tractor trailer was on its side. Upon our arrival there was a tractor trailer on its side and all 3 lanes were affected, no traffic was getting through. The type of trailer involved was a dump trailer carrying scrap pieces of aluminum. Most of the aluminum was scattered about the left and center lanes. The driver was pinned in the vehicle and had to be extricated by fire dept. personnel. His injuries do not appear to be life threatening. State DOT was called in to assist with the clean up, providing payloaders, street sweepers, and personnel. State DEEP was also on scene. Neither saddle tank was compromised, but there was a large hydraulic and oil spill around and under the cab.
The cause is under investigation but according to state pd the dump trailer malfunctioned and began to rise up hitting the bridge causing the tractor trailer to roll over. The highway was cleared of all debris and opened approximately 1430 hours.
