DHL Delivery Box Truck November 1, 2013
Updated On: Oct 09, 2019

Norwalk Fire Department

Press Release

November 1, 2013

The Norwalk Fire Department was called to assist with the removal of a DHL delivery box truck that became wedged under the Washington Street train bridge, Friday afternoon. The 13 ‘6” truck became wedged under the 11’ 2” bridge at 2:24pm.  The fire department was called in at 3:30pm when Metro North Bridge inspectors felt that pulling the truck out the conventional way may cause structural damage to the bridge. This was due to the trucks steel framing around its rear roll up door being severely wedged under the bridges supporting members.

Firefighters using an Oxi-gasoline petrogen torch and diamond tip rotary saw working from an aerial platform truck to cut the steel framing of the truck. Once the framing was cut, Nat’s towing was able to free the wedged truck without stressing the bridges structure.

Norwalk Police blocked South Main and Washington streets till 5 pm while crews worked to free the truck and inspect the bridge. Metro North Police were also on scene investigating the accident.
