NorwalkFire Department

Press Release

August 6, 2013

The Norwalk Fire Department responded to two separate fires this morning. The first fire came in at 6:26 am and was confined to the paint spraying booth at Casale Auto body at 9 Van Zant Street. The owner started up the ventilation system when arriving at work and noticed the room filling with smoke. Firefighters were able to open up the exhaust vent from inside the room to attack the fire. Crews also worked on the roof to prevent the flames from spreading to the roofing material. The fire was brought under control by 6:50 with only minor charring to the roof structure.

24 firefighters responded on 3 Engines, 2 Trucks a Rescue and Command Car. Fire Inspector Luca Feola is investigating the cause of the fire and the business is expected to remain open.

The second fire came in at 7:00am and was located in a detached single car garage at 28 Spring Hill Avenue. The fire was quickly knocked down after crews forced their way into the garage and placed under control at 7:10am. The garage was used to store paint and spray foam insulation equipment.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by Acting Fire marshal Chris Hansen.
