The Norwalk Fire Department swore-in a new probationary firefighter this afternoon with Chief Denis McCarthy and Mayor Richard Moccia issuing their oath of service, at Norwalk Fire Headquarters.
Probationary Firefighter Corey Gilchrist graduated from the Connecticut Fire Academy in December 2012 and has worked the past 5 months for the Westport Fire Department. He tested for the Norwalk Fire Department in the late fall of 2012 and was the top candidate of the 1,000 that tested for the job. He worked his first full shift today after working 2 days of orientation.
After being sworn in by Mayor Moccia, Corey’s wife Donna pinned on his badge, with their children Maren and Ryan watching. Family, friends and brother firefighters also gathered for the ceremony which included Corey’s Brother Kevin Jr. a 10 year member and his Father Kevin Sr. who retired from the department last year after serving for 33years.
