April 16, 2012
Norwalk Firefighters responded to a fire in a condominium complex at 100 SanVincenzo Pl. This complex was built in 1992 and is comprised of 58 living units. Norwalk combined dispatch received a call of a fire in unit 34 at 12:21 this afternoon. The first fire unit arrived in four minutes and found light smoke coming from the unit. The fire was kept small by two sprinkler heads that were activated in the unit and quickly extinguished by the crew of Engine 5 using one hand line. The bulk of the damage was in the laundry room and adjoining hallway. Other fire crews checked for fire extension and made a secondary search to confirm that all occupants were out of the unit and the surrounding units.
Three occupants were living in the unit at the time and were examined by Norwalk Hospital paramedics for possible smoke inhalation but all refused treatment. The three occupants will be staying with family until the unit is repaired. The cause of the fire is being investigated by Deputy Fire Marshal Chris Hansen with assistance by Inspector Tom Raila.
24 Firefighters on 2 Trucks, 3 Engines a Rescue and Command Car responded to the scene. The last fire unit cleared the scene at 1:31 with the fire marshal division still on scene.
