Five new recruits to start work on Norwalk's firefighting force

The Norwalk Fire Department welcomed five new recruits Monday with Chief Denis McCarthy and Mayor Richard Moccia issuing their oath of service at fire headquarters.  The five newly appointed firefighters graduated from the Connecticut Fire Academy on Thursday, May 19, after 14 weeks of training.  They start work today with an orientation to the department, and then they'll begin a year's probation assigned to one of the department's four platoons.  The new firefighters are; Chad Boudreau, Jesse Granton, Ryan Hart, Thomas Reich, and Michael Vinci.  Boudreau is a graduate of Staples High School in Westport. Before joining the Norwalk Fire Department, he was a carpenter in his father's business for the last eight years since graduating high school. He is a Certified EMT-B.  Granton is a graduate of New Fairfield High School. Previously to joining Norwalk Fire Department, he was a personal trainer.  Hart is a graduate of Ansonia High School. He attended New England Technical Institute and previously worked as an E-2 electrician at Jay Marrone Electric in Derby.  Reich is a graduate of Pine Bush High School ,Pine Bush, N.Y. He attended Orange County Community College, Community College of the Air Force. He is an 11-year member of the 105th N.Y. Air National Guard Unit in Newburgh N.Y. Previously to joining the Norwalk Fire Department, he was a federal firefighter at Fort Monmouth, N.J.  Vinci is a 2004 graduate of Norwalk High School. He attended Norwalk Community College and received an associates degree in fire technology and administration. He previously was an electrician. He holds a 100 Master Captains License.
